Pilgrim Hat Placecards

Posted by Erika Waz on Kids Cuisine.

Thanksgiving is approaching at the speed of light! It’s just around the corner, and nary a plan has been laid for the upcoming holiday.  Fortunately, my daughter Abigail has crafts on the brain, and as soon as she saw this edible craft in a book or a magazine, she had to try it herself.  We gave these Pilgrim Hat Placecards a test run to see if they would work well for Thanksgiving and fare well if made ahead of time.  We’re happy to report success on all fronts.  The Pilgrim Hats were easy enough for my eight-year old to assemble by herself, they tasted great, and they were just fine two days after construction.

Feel free to use any chocolate cookie you would like- we chose to make our own chocolate cookies, but Nabisco’s Famous Wafers or even some Oreo’s seem like excellent quick choices.

Pilgrim Hat Placecards

  • 12 chocolate cookies
  • 12 mini peanut butter cups
  • *1 tube of tinted frosting with fine tip for piping frosting

Unwrap the peanut butter cups carefully, so as not to remove any chocolate with the wrapper.  Place a small dot of frosting on the top of the peanut butter cups.  Flip the cups over and place them, frosting down, into the center of each cookie.

Use the tinted frosting to pipe a buckle and hat band around the peanut butter cup.  Pipe names for placecards on the flat part of the cookie.  Set the cookies aside to allow the frosting to dry completely before storing in an airtight container.

Adjust the number of cookies and peanut butter cups you need for the number of guests you’ll be having.

*Be sure to not use tinted piping gel, as the gel will not harden completely.
