Top Chef’s Richard Blais Brings Tasting Menu to CIA

blais.jpgTop Chef may not be debuting for another month, but in just a few weeks you can experience your own Top Chef meal. Live. In person.

Richard Blais, one of the finalists from Top Chef Chicago, will be giving an exclusive culinary demonstration on November 8 at The Culinary Institute of America. Blais is a 1998 graduate of the school.

The event will include a tasting dinner based on the dishes Blais made on Top Chef. He’ll also be showing off his unique techniques. And after watching him all season earlier this year, who wouldn’t want to? Remember when he gave up his winner spot to Antonia? So nice.

Here’s the detes from the CIA:

On Saturday, November 8, Chef Blais will create a unique and complete tasting dinner based on many of the dishes that he prepared on Top Chef, the number one food show on cable television. The menu will showcase the skills that made him a fan favorite on Bravo. He will prepare four separate dishes plus a cocktail. The dinner and demonstration will take place at The Danny Kaye Theatre on the campus of The Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, NY from 6:15–9:15 p.m. Admission for this exclusive event is $225 per person, and in addition to the four-course dinner and cocktail, all participants will also receive a copy of the Top Chef Cookbook.

For those coming up from New York City or Westchester by train to attend the dinner, the CIA will offer a free round-trip shuttle to the Hyde Park campus from the Metro-North Railroad station in Poughkeepsie. The CIA shuttle will pick up passengers arriving on the 4:35 p.m. and 5:33 p.m. trains, and later will return people to the station.

“The only drawback to shows like Top Chef is that the general public never has the opportunity to taste the food that made chefs like Richard so well-known,” said Laura Pickover, director of food enthusiast programs for The Culinary Institute of America. “Top Chef: The Class gives fans of the show the opportunity to not only meet the chef, but also taste his unique culinary creations.”

The 35-year-old Blais, who became a dad earlier this year, is a Long Island native living in Atlanta. He is culinary director of Element Gastro Lounge = Food Lab. His point of view? Cooking is art … and a craft too.

What are you waiting for?!? Make a reservation!

I was really impressed by Richard’s performance on Top Chef. It’s good to see he continues to get recognition for his outstanding culinary talent. And only $225 to attend? Merely a drop in the bucket! :)
