Introducing The Next Food Network Star Finalists - Part 2
Posted by Patsy Kreitman on Edible TV.
The Next Food Network Star Season 4 finalists have shared a little bit about themselves and we are sharing those answers right here. Last time, we got to know Kevin Roberts better, now it’s time to find out more from Shane Lyons.
Q: What makes you different from finalists in previous seasons?
A: Many of us on the fourth season have had previous entertainment industry experience, which I feel really ups the stakes when it comes to on-camera challenges.
Q: What 3 things do you always have in your refrigerator?
A: I always have butter (can’t live without it), cheese, bacon. Even after my weight loss, I still enjoy all the best foods in life, just in much smaller portion sizes. Best motto to live by: “Everything in moderation, including moderation.”
Q: If you could have one comfort food at the end of a tough day what would it be?
A: Hot wings with homemade blue cheese dressing.
Q: Who is your favorite Food Network personality?
A: Alton Brown. Let’s be real, the man uses puppets and paper mache props to make food and science entertaining and relatable to both the home cook and the professional, what’s not to love?
Q: If you could make dinner for anyone in the world, who would it be and why?
A: My entire family (which is very large). My whole family from my mom and dad to my brother and sister, to all my aunts, uncles, cousins and grandparents who have been the most amazing people. They have encouraged and supported me through all of my adventures and I know the blessed llife that I live would not be possible without their love.
Q: What was the most difficult technique you learned while attending the Culinary Institute of America?
A: Tourne potatoes. A tourne potato is a potato that is cut into the shape of a barrel with seven even sides (looks like a mini potato football). It took me lots of practice at home with a sack of russets before I was able to get the technique down.
Q: How would you describe your cooking style?
A: I am all about French inspired technique, once you get down some basic methods and techniques the sky is the limit when it comes to what you can create.
Q: Will your experience in front of the camera give you an edge over the other finalists or do you think more will be expected of you because of it?
A: Everyone has their own advantages in this competition. My previous on camera experience will be something that I can draw upon and help me feel more comfortable for the on camera challenges. A lot is expected from everyone all of the time, so I don’t fee I will be held to a higher standard than anyone else.
Q: Since you are the youngest finalist, do you think you’ll have a harder time competing against the more seasoned finalists?
A: I am not the type of person to ever use my age as an excuse. In my mind, life experience is what dictates the level of a person’s knowledge and abilities, not age. I feel more than confident that I can compete along side the other finalists of the show.
Q: What was the most unusual menu request made to your catering service?
A: I have one celebrity client who at one time told me if I were to put a piece of “raw cow” in front of him, that he would eat it without hesitation.
