Food Network Helps You “Eat Green”
Posted by Patsy Kreitman on Growers and Grocers.
These days many of us are trying to go green in many areas of our lives. Food Network has jumped in and provided a helpful list of ways you can do this without making huge changes all at once. Here are some highlights:
Shop locally. This will give you fresher produce and you’ll be supporting family owned farms.
Bring Your Own Bag. This piece of advice is much easier to follow than you might think. Just keep extra bags in the car and when you stop for groceries, grab them. Many grocery stores will give you back between $0.02 and $0.05 for each bag you re-use.
Go Organic. Most produce is grown with pesticides and that is ingested when you eat them. Organic is grown without pesticides. Also, look for a “9″ on the stickers on produce you are purchasing as this is a “clue” to which ones are grown organically.
Just Grill it! Grilling uses less energy than your stove and it will reduce the amount of heat inside your house.
Be mindful of the type of meat you are buying. Go for grass-fed beef products. They are nutritionally better for you.
Try Organic Milk. It’s more Earth-friendly and is better for your heart.
