Four Ways to Go Green

sara-snow.jpgI’m always looking for new quick and easy ways for our family to “go green,” and luckily, there is no shortage of available inspiration. Sara Snow, host of Discovery Health’s Get Fresh with Sara Snow, offered up a few simple solutions in a recent issue of Woman’s Day magazine:

Rethink takeout. Don’t take more ketchup packets or napkins than you need - extras just end up unused in the dump.

Ditch water-hogging baths and take shorter showers. Cutting a shower from 10 minutes to 5 minutes can save 20,000 gallons of water a year.

Buy organic cotton. Cotton is one of the world’s most heavily sprayed crops, using 25 percent of the world’s insecticides.

Save fuel no matter what car you drive. Check your car’s filter; a clean one can increase fuel efficiency by 10 percent.

For more great ideas and inspiration from Sara, check out her website and keep an eye out for her on the Discovery channel. She’s currently working on her third series for them, this one to premiere on their new 24-hour green network, tentatively titled Discovery Green.
