Ben & Jerry’s Cinnamon Buns

cinnabuns.jpgI love Ben & Jerry’s Ice cream, out of the widespread, commercial ice cream brands, it’s probably my favorite. It’s not just about the creative flavors and their naming. I admire the fact that the company is commited to things like support for farms, fair trade and preserving the nature of products. But in the end, it’s also about the taste of the ice cream.

I recently saw one of the new flavors created by the Vermont firm: Cinnamon Buns. I immediately reached out for it, thinking it was a godsend. The description read “Caramel Ice Cream with Cinnamon Bun Dough & Cinnamon Streusel Swirl.” Caramel and Cinnamon together? I was drooling.

True to my expectations, the flavor was rich, the texture was creamy. The caramel and the cinnamon combined were so good, I was almost in Ice Cream Heaven.

Alas, there was just one thing to keep this ice cream from making it to my list of Ben & Jerry’s favorites: the dough. Unlike cookie or brownie dough, which have tons of fat in them and behave nicely when in ice cream, the cinnamon bun dough was a bit too hard and chewy. Not toffee-chewy, but just enough to throw me off.

For the sake of tasting, I wouldn’t recommend people to stay away from this one just on that ‘lil thing. I think it could be written off as a minor worry. Would I get another pint? Yes, definitely.
