Ferrero Rondnoir

Posted by Alicia Zar on Sugar Savvy.

Ferrero is a pretty well-known brand. You may have noticed their products sitting on drugstore shelves. Or maybe you’ve seen their latest commercials, advertising “food for the gods.” This is Ferrero’s great appeal: elegant, well-packaged chocolates for a decent price. I’ve tried both the hazelnut Rocher and the almond coconut Raffaello, but I hadn’t had the dark chocolate Rondnoir before receiving this sample.

The Rondnoirs are dressed in dark brown foil and sit in brown paper cup. Three come in the single serving tray, but they are also available in various boxed sizes.

These samples arrived squished, so it was difficult to dissect the spheres. The layers had fallen into each other. We seem to have crumbly chocolate bits followed by a crisp wafer shell. This doesn’t pack much flavor, but it does protect the dark chocolate cream inside. The filling is soft and creamy with a pleasant, straight-forward chocolate taste. At the very center is a small ball of very slippery dark chocolate, which, honestly, doesn’t taste much like chocolate at all. Instead it is buttery and bitter, and makes the sphere extra smooth.

While I don’t think these are for the true chocolate fanatic, they are great for the casual (or budgeted) fan.

You know, I love the regular hazelnut Ferrero chocolates (can’t quite remember the name) and I love dark chocolate, so I bought a small package of these to try.
Ugh! They were awful. I actually threw out the rest after eating one. I’m not sure what, exactly it was supposed to taste like, but man oh man it wasn’t good.

I got a box of these for Christmas and I adore them. I’m not usually a fan of dark chocolate, but these are less bitter than traditional dark chocolate. I love the crisp outer layer. Simply delicious.

OMG! I just discovered these 2 weeks ago and I am hooked! They are my new favorites! They make my eyes roll in the back of my head. :)
