This whole gluten free eating is a scam. It is a way to draw attention to oneself. Many physicians agree that it is a fad, that’s all.

Rico

I enjoy the many different recipes and family stories that Susan (foodblogga) has written. I look forward to more new recipes. She should consider a tv show,Susan stories make you want get cooking with family and build memories as Susan has. This country needs more family time, like years ago when family got together on Sundays at your grandparents for dinner. Family all knew one another. Today it seems nobody takes the time.Keep up the good work Susan (foodblogga). Your writting is like chicken soup,it warms your heart and soul!

@Rico:
You obviously are not sympathetic or educated enough to be touched by seeing someone in a restaurant that is served food that they cannot eat, and yet were specific in ordering. To understand what goes through the waiter’s mind when he/she is baffled that the person cannot simply pick out the bits and pieces of food they are allergic to, and be empathetic towards the person that just wants to eat like everyone else. People thought the Women’s Right’s movement and Desegregation decades ago were to draw attention and were fads as well.

Rico. Shame on you. I have a daughter who went from a healthy, 22lb one year old to a malnourished, sad 20lb two year old. Once they figured out that she had celiac, and I stopped feeding her gluten, she gained 10 lbs in two months and now is a healthy four and a half year old. And if she even gets one bite of a regular sandwich, she projectile vomits. Somehow, I don’t think she’s doing it to draw attention to herself.

Type your comment here.Oo, this is so exciting. I’ve always wanted to meet time-travellers. Rico, you and your ‘many physicians’ have come to 2007 from when? Twenty years ago? I’m sure you’re busy familiarizing yourself with current reality but when you’re tired of your own nastiness and just want a good, joyful read, may I recommend the gluten-free girl?

Ah, Rico.

Can you explain that to my immune system how it’s reaction to gluten is only a fad?

And while your explaining away my allergy to gluten, I’d appreciate it if you can also address it’s (my immune system’s) issues with cats, ragweed, and latex…

Denial is a wonderful thing.

It’s easy to deny what someone else is going through. Gluten-Free girl has been a delightful read for me and I’m not even intolerant (just don’t care much for bread). Imagine my surprise to figure out after having read the blog for months that my bread-loving daughter is intolerant. I’m very grateful for the blog and all the work that’s been done already. Now if we can get more awareness for corn allergies.

These are all such great blogs. I adore glutenfreegirl.com and have for a long time, it is so uplifting and charming and so full of delicious food and inspiration. What’s not to love??

It’s such a shame when people dont educate themselves before unnecessarily offending others.

In actuality, a little research would have done you well, Rico.

This gluten-free “scam” is actually a medically diagnosed allergy. Just like lactose intolerance. All those milk nay-sayers? Scams as well? People that swell up and nearly die from shellfish? Must be faking it, eh? And nuts? Surely people couldn’t actually be allergic to such things?!

But on a side note, yes some people choose the diet for personal reasons unrelated to any allergy. They do not have a disease. Do not offend everyone else that is actually afflicted with the disease.

Glutenfree girl helped me through my diagnosis 6 months ago, and I have pointed quite a few others in her direction when they found out their sad news. Such warm writing, and tasty recipes!

Rico…

Your comment is a big FAIL! You’ve proven that you don’t know anything about celiac. I wish it was a fad. I don’t particularly like not being able to eat anything with gluten. It’s not a trend to me, I do it so I don’t have to be sick all the time or get cancer in the future. Sometimes it’s like hell having to live like this, but I do enjoy living without pain. Thank you for making a mockery of my illness. You ignorant fool. Go learn yourself a book about celiac, dummy!

I was diagnosed with celiacs when I was 18mos old and on my death bed! I want to thank you for your research! I am still learning about all my restrictions and realizing that I have more options now as an adult (now 28yrs old),than My parents & I ever knew as a child. Thank you for all you’ve done and for realizing that there are many of us out there that still need advice/guidance on the “celiac” diet!

Here I was just looking up a gluten-free oatmeal cookie recipe and i stumbled across Rico’s remark. Jeez, do you think us gluten-free people enjoy passing up fresh bread? We do it because we don’t want to suffer! I actually don’t have celiac disease, but I was diagnosed with a syndrom that makes my stomach very sensitive to almost everything! Wheat is one of them. So thanks gluten-free girl!
