Edible TV Talks with Jill Davie
Posted by Cate O’Malley on Edible TV.
Even though Chef Jill Davie didn’t make it on Food Network’s The Next Iron Chef, she was a spitfire to watch during her time there and we will miss her. We were thrilled for the opportunity to interview her recently. Here’s what she had to say:
All the contestants have had wonderful culinary careers thus far, what made you decide to take the leap into competing in The Next Iron Chef?
The chance to compete in the Next Iron Chef is the chance and opportunity of a lifetime. What better way to challenge yourself as a chef?
Who do you feel is your biggest competition in The Next Iron Chef?
It’s hard to say because all the competitors are extremely talented and experienced. It really comes down to each individual’s performance in the competitions.
What sets you apart from the other competitors?
I’m a purebred California girl.
What surprised you most about the whole experience?
The insane challenges!
Who has been your biggest cooking inspiration?
Julia Childs and Barbara Tropp.
What is the strangest thing we’d find in your refrigerator?
Korean chili flakes, and bee pollen.
What did you have for dinner last night?
A chicken wrap from Penn station that I ate in route to LA.
What’s next in your culinary career?
Certainly many more projects. Probably a restaurant or café of sorts.
What has been the best thing to happen to you as the Sunkist Lemon Lady?
Definitely traveling to Korea. Teaching cooking classes with a translator on how to make lemon kimchee was entertaining, because you know they’ve been making it wrong for centuries!
Do you feel your prior TV appearances gave you an advantage over your competitors in The Next Iron Chef competition?
I wouldn’t say that it gave me an advantage. But, I’m certainly comfortable with a camera in my face! I guess that was one less thing I had to worry about.
Stay tuned to Edible TV as we talk to all the other contestants as well.
