Horizon Organic’s Dairy Products for Kids

It’s not too often that my daughter chugs down three servings of milk in a day’s time and I have to say no to a fourth serving. That was what happened when I saw Horizon Organic’s flavored single serve milks appear at my grocery store and grabbed up one of each flavor for her to try.
I loved the packaging, as I am always on a quest for healthy grab-and-go drinks for the kids. It comes in a slight variation on a juice box package, and you can either pull off a tab for sipping or insert a straw. I was thrilled to find organic milk in a single serving size and in a spill-reducing container.
My daughter doesn’t care about those things, but she just loved it. As she slurped down the chocolate milk flavor, she proclaimed, “This tastes like a shake!” That piqued my curiosity, so I took a sip. In fact, it was a very rich-tasting chocolate milk without the sweetness being overpowering. The other flavors, vanilla and strawberry, were also downright delicious. Horizon makes a reduced fat plain version if you want to cut down on the sugar.
They are a little high in calories for a lot of drinking throughout the day, varying depending on the flavor but at around 200 calories and 4 grams of fat. It’s a great way to boost protein and calcium for the kids, though.
I also saw another newcomer (at least at my local grocer) from Horizon, Baby Yogurt. The packaging for this is well thought out as well, in wide mouth and flat round containers. That makes it easy for feeding a baby, or for babies to feed themselves. It comes in packs with peach and vanilla or pear and vanilla. Both of my twins loved the yogurt, and my 4-year-old also insisted on having one.
Horizon has a few other interesting kids’ items, such as a DHA-enhanced milk, a kids’ yogurt called “Yo-Yos,” and yogurt tubes. There are also several other items that aren’t specifically for kids, but that kids will love, such as yogurt smoothies, organic ice cream, and mozzarella and colby cheese sticks.
