Cocktails On The Fly - Distillery No 209
Posted by Andrew Barrow on The Spirit World.
To coincide with the 5th annual “Tales of the Cocktail” conference in New Orleans running through Sunday, 7/22, Cocktails on the Fly a new online TV show presented by ON Networks, is telling quite a tale of its own.
In a new three-part series, hostess Alberta “Flighty Hostess” Straub takes viewers on an informational yet quirky tour of San Francisco’s historic gin Distillery No. 209. Straub kicks off the series by showing viewers the elements that go into each bottle of gin, from Sierra Nevada snow melt to distinctive herbs and spices like cardamom and bergamot oranges. In Part 2, viewers learn about the gin’s three-step distillation process. Straub concludes the series in Part 3 by exploring the distillery’s research lab and bottling area where each bottle is hand-inspected to follow 209’s standard of “the Best is Good Enough.” Cocktails on the Fly’s distillery series represents just one of the many zany adventures which Straub walks viewers through. Dubbed the “Alice Waters of Booze,” by SF Weekly, Straub has made a name for herself, nationwide, as a libations innovator, mixing cocktails in Bay Area watering holes for years, using only fresh produce and homemade ingredients.
Now Straub has found an online home. Presented in short, 3-10 minute segments, the show has something for everyone - from drink enthusiasts to aperitif aficionados.
