Eaties Cereal Bar in Asheville, North Carolina
Posted by Kelby Carr on Well Fed on the Town.
There’s a new restaurant in Asheville, North Carolina, that is thinking “inside” the box, so to speak. At Eaties Cereal Bar, the fare isn’t haute cuisine. In fact, it’s more like pajama-wearing comfort food. Boasting more than 20 types of cereal that are served up buffet-style with a variety of milks and toppings, this isn’t your mother’s bar. The selections include name-brand, organics and granola, as well as a variety of milks from organic to soy to rice. You can also top your cereal with various add-ons like raisins, fruit and candies.
Here is a sampling of the cereal selection:
- Count Chocula
- Apple Jacks
- Lucky Charms
- Froot Loops
- Organic Hemp-Plus Granola
- Organic Ginger Zing Granola
- Natural Puffins
If you think a cereal bar is just for mornings (or even just for kids), think again. While they do show cartoons all day on Saturdays (I mean, it is Saturday, after all), Eaties is open as late as 11 p.m. on weekends. It’s a magnet for the artistic, creative types commonly found in Asheville’s funky downtown.
They recently held a “Mega-Bowl Competition,” in which competitors raced to eat cereal out of bowls big enough to hold an entire cereal box. They also have themed nights. Wednesdays feature “Political Stitch ‘N B*tch” (their spelling), Thursdays are “Pretentious Free Poetry Night,” and Saturday is “Adult Swim 18+.”
