The Matter of The Crust

Cutter SetMy daughter has always eschewed the crusts on her sandwiches. Don’t ask me where it came from, but from her very first sandwiches up to today, those crusty edges of bread have always been discreetly deposited to the side of her lunch plate. When she started school, I began slicing off the crusts with a knife to make lunch a little easier for her. Somewhere along the way I was busy remembering my school lunches, and I clearly remembered one little girl who always had the coolest lunch. I mean, her Mom packed her a real Fruit Roll-Up in her lunch. No one else had that. I wanted to be that little girl so many years ago.

And today I want to be that little girl’s Mom. So I began pulling out cookie cutters and cutting my daughters sandwiches into tiny circles and flowers and hearts. I began encountering problems though. Quite often, different shapes did not work with different fillings- tuna salad comes to mind. And when I would get those tiny flowers cut out, I had much more than slivers of crust leftover- I had other pieces of the inside. While it wasn’t much going in the trash, it was still more than I wanted. Lucky for me, the folks over at Fresh Finds knew of my dilemma. Their Sandwich Cutter Set not only eliminates the crust, but it cuts the sandwiches into smaller portions and shapes. It’s the perfect solution for removing the crust with style.

My son also hates the crust, and much to the dismay of my husband, I continue to cut them off. I have tried the cookie cutter route as well, but these look much better. My son will love this!
