Begum Palace in Madison, NJ

When The Husband and I lived in Madison, our next door neighbors, who are Indian, introduced us to Indian food. Never having really been exposed to it before, it was quite the culinary journey for us. Now, many years later, and no longer neighbors, we owe our love for Indian food to them.
Imagine our delight, while we lived there, to find an Indian restaurant opening up next door. As soon as you walk into the restaurant, you are swept up in the traditional scents of Indian cuisine, and are greeted warmly by the staff, and usually the owner, Jassi. Over the years, living next door, we made weekly visits, trying out all different things on the menu, quickly amassing a selection of our favorite items. Now that we don’t live in the area anymore, we still make monthly trips back for our favorite “Indian food fix.”
They have a twice-weekly buffet, on Wednesdays and Sundays, which is a perfect way to sample lots of Indian delicacies and quickly find out what you like and don’t like. Our favorites? Their Chicken Makhani, Kheer, Samosas, Assorted Snacks, Onion Kulcha, Pani Puri and Bhel Puri. My mouth is watering just typing this - it might be time for another fix.
Reasonably priced (entrees are $12-20) with well-paced service, they even offer a discount for take-out. If you’re in the area, give Begum Palace a try. You won’t be disappointed.

Good call - I grew up on Indian food and lived nearby and my family & I went there about once a month, if not more. Although we never did try the buffett.
