Want a Sugar Rush?

The Sun-Sentinal reports that the Food Network’s Sugar Rush will feature a Ft. Lauderdale, Florida pastry chef who creates dessert menus for local restaurants. Malka Espinel “will combine her two passions, making desserts and designing jewelry, on the Food Network’s Sugar Rush at 2 p.m.” A sampling of her desserts includes “three-berry crème brulee and a chocolate cake filled with peanut butter mousse, caramel and dulce de leche.”
Espinel is featured on a Sugar Rush episode about items that sparkle. To meet the challenge, she made a jewelry box with gingerbread, hard candy and shiny rock sugar. Not content to just stop there, she then filled the box with gum paste ”bracelets, rings and necklaces” that she covered in edible gold, silver and copper dust.
According to the paper: “Espinel will make a second Food Network appearance at 10 p.m. Monday with Vinczencz and his chef du cuisine Dwayne Adams on Iron Chef America against Bobby Flay.” Are they going to give her a show of her own soon? She’s certainly on the network a bunch….
