Diary of a Loser: Week 8
Posted by Sarah Caron on Fit Fare.
Phew. The annual family Christmas party is out of the way. Christmas eve is taken care of. And the eating feast of Christmas is finished. And somehow I came through it all - all the sweets, all the decadent foods, all the eating - losing a pound or two. How cool is that?
All the holiday celebrations were wonderful. Seeing my almost 17-month-old son play with his new toys and exclaim “Shoes! Shoes!” when he opened his snow boots was magical. I wouldn’t trade any of it for anything.
And now it’s onward and upward to the new year. The new year is a time for renewed determinations and rehabed intentions. It’s a time to start fresh with a positive look forward. It’s a time to resolve to do better.
I’ve been avoiding thinking or talking about resolutions up to this point but it’s time to face it and make a few. FirstGov lists several popular resolutions, which include losing weight, getting fit, quitting smoking and volunteering. The cool thing is that if you click on each of the resolutions, it takes you to resources to help you achieve the goal.
In the past, I’ve resolved to lose weight (did it), stop eating meat (did it for many years, until medical issues led me back to eating it) and be more organized (well, two out of three ain’t bad).
This year, I’m making a few resolutions to target different areas of my life:
- Lose 35 pounds and get in shape - I am going back to the basics and following the SparkPeople plan from the beginning. I will be tracking every meal, eating lean meals in the right proportions, etc. And exercise, lots of exercise.
- Save money and start a savings account for myself - This all starts with budgeting, which I actually began in early December. So I will continue budgeting, and begin putting away any extra money from each paycheck until I have $200 to open a savings account. Hopefully that will be by the end of January.
- Be nicer (actually, just learn to bite my tongue more often…) - I think this one speaks for itself
- Work harder on breaking into new markets for writing - It’s time to get those queries going again and write like crazy.
